When the boys were little, it went without saying that I had to purge and adjust their bedroom regularly as they grew to keep it current and to their need (our guys have shared a room their whole life). Turns out, the same is true for big boys. One year down with the public school experience, and we've come to see what, exactly, needs a home up there in the loft, and what doesn't anymore. This fall has seen a readjustment of their space to fit them a bit better.
Top on the list was wall hooks - because school backpacks need a place to go other than willy-nilly across any available (or not so available) floor space, contents spilling out.
A stroll through the internet offered many viable options, but, a nagging memory made me pause and run to the shed to see what we may already have. We don't keep much out there in the way of hardware odds and ends, save for the coffee can where we toss any lonely screw, nut, bolt, or nail, but it seemed to me that we still had some coat hooks knocking around a bin, waiting for their next place to be useful. Turns out I was right. Next to the packets of sandpaper and the rolled-up painter's cloth, together in a bag, was an odd assortment of wall hooks.
With a little love, they'd be good to go.
It's good to have the option to purchase something when we need to. But it's just as good - maybe even better - to not have to when we don't.
Do what you can with what you have.
