It's a bit unusual to start right off with a kiss, I know, but let's go ahead and shake things up. You may be thinking, as these Friday posts go, that perhaps today's writing is about the man you see up there, because he's what I have, and I'm clearly doing what I can with what I have (kisses? oh, yes!). But, from the beginning of this whole blogging thing (whoa, it's been eight years?), his one request of me has been "just don't make me famous." With that directive I better stop right here about the man and his kisses because it wouldn't take much for this guy to go viral.
Let's talk about the boots. My boots.
They're insulated rubber Bogs I purchased four years ago, the celebratory punctuation at the end of a major search I'd launched to find a pair of warm winter boots that could do it all. At moment one, their shiny blackness caught my eye and their quilted cuffs sealed the deal. From keeping my toes toasty on the sledding hill, to looking chic around town with tights and a knee-length skirt on sloppy spring days, these boots have been a win ever since. Deep down, I hope they last forever.
And they should, with good care and proper keeping. Thank goodness there's no need to empty the bank on a new pair of boots every year. To ward off the inevitable 'bloom' that steals the shine from rubber boots, I turned to none other than the legendary British rubber boot company, Hunter. Sure enough, they offer a couple products for keeping that shine in place.
I've used both the rubber buffer and the boot shine, and recommend both, in that order.
Here's to spending a handful of dollars on what you have in order to keep from spending hundreds every year on what you don't.
Do what you can with what you have.
P.S. If you happen to be looking for a do-it-all winter boot, go ahead and buy quality right off, you won't regret it. And if you're love-struck with the look of classic, shiny rubber boots, as I am, you're in luck (even though Bogs has discontinued the boots I have). Hunter has you covered. They even offer insulated, cuffed socks to keep your toes toasty (and if you're toes are in need of being even toastier, down liners). There are even more choices on their website.
