When the lead-in holiday bustle wound down, we were all here, in pj's with hot drinks in hand, enjoying Christmas morning. It was a simple affair under the tree. Three last-minute gift bags had been sewn to hold what the boys were given (somehow, something other than boxes wrapped with paper seemed right this time), four gifts each, layered inside with tissue paper. There were stockings, too, of course, with sweet treats and small surprises. One of them held doggie treats so, naturally, Nellie thought all of them did. Oh, that girl.
Following a breakfast of Norwegian pancakes and piles of bacon, a long, relaxing stretch of days began. There was snowboarding and snowmachining for some, movie watching for others, knitting for me, and the nibbling of leftovers by everyone whenever hunger struck. In the middle of all this was an unplanned, but completely embraced overnight at home, just my guy and I without any boys. Oh, my. It was heaven, really. I don't remember the last time I've been so relaxed, rested, and in love.
Today, I'll pad around the house in my slippers, take down the tree (which is decorated with grasses, branches, and rose hips I gathered), put the stockings away, sweep up the dust bunnies. I may even snap into my skiis and glide through the woods.
I so love the week between.
