We sat in the morning sun, he & I, listening to the creek burble. It was the kind of time that settles you and we took it with gratitude by the fistsful. Mindful of the sickness that's still hanging on by weak tendrils, keeping us running at half-speed, we soaked there, deep in our seats, and let words come and go as they pleased. Our favorite dog chewed a stick nearby, the kitties came and then went. A boy did, too. I knitted for the first time in weeks, the rhythm of it like a long- familiar friend. This, in just a slice of the morning, before we stepped into the production of the day.
