As I move on to a description of the plans for Shelter No. 3, the first thing you should note is the reduction in square footage down to around the 1100 mark.
But, really, let's just talk about vaulted ceilings for a minute.
Though I'm not typically a fan of expases of what could easily be deemed wasted space, I do appreciate the value in considered openness, especially when it's combined in a home with more intimate, sheltered places. It's much like the ebb and flow of a strain of music, the quieter, softer notes bringing introspection and repose; the cresendo lifting & energizing.
So, when you enter Shelter No. 3 from the shelter of the covered porch, you are immediately lifted by a high ceiling as you enter the great room. Interest and story is brought to the space by exposed beams and a dormer that punches through the roof, bringing light over the dining area.
You'll find the main level of Shelter No. 3 to be just like Shelter No. 2, beginning with the great room and its kitchen, living, and dining areas. The real change in this third plan in the collection is upstairs.
At the top of the standard stairway, you will find yourself in the familiar landing of Shelters 1 & 2, with its built-in wardrobe. Off the landing hall, you will find two doors. The first leads to a small bedroom with a built-in twin extra-long bed nook, flanked on either end by bookcases, a recessed desk area, and built-in wardrobe (just like the small bedroom upstairs in Shelter No. 1).
The second door leads to another bedroom, this one is slightly larger. It could have the same twin bed nook under the window that the first bedroom has, or it could have stacked bunkbed nooks along a wall, with a long desk/workspace under the window.
Tucked inside the dormers, these rooms have sloped ceilings that reach from just under 7' at the outside walls to just over 9' at the peak.
In a nutshell, Shelter No. 3 offers:
:: 1100 sq ft.
:: a vaulted ceiling over the great room
:: two full baths
:: three bedrooms
:: sleeps 4-5
