You know when you have a dream that’s been floating around in your mind for quite some time, you know that it’s a good one, and you also know that if you just wait long enough, it’ll have a chance to unfold? It may not be the huge, life-changing kind of dream; it may just be the simplest of small ones (I’m so thankful for the small ones), like having flowers in the bath.
Flowers in the bath?
Yes, that added touch of nature, of beauty to look at next to the splattered mirror and the tooth-pasted sink. You know what I mean.
Flowers in the bath.
Patient dreams happen, friends, for, just a few months ago, in the middle of what had become a very long winter, there in our bathroom, sat a bouquet of bright yellow roses in a tarnished silver julep cup. Oh, for the love of the dream that becomes! (It’s the little things, I’m convinced).
Then, as the weeks rolled by, and those roses dried into a lovely golden hue, it was even better still.
All this happened because of this sweet little glass shelf found in the middle of the junk at the Goodwill one day last January. Price? $4.99.
And, my, it looks for all the world like the the Sussex glass shelf from Pottery Barn (price: $69), don’t you think? I think it must be!
The wide rim around the pedestal sink is the perfect place to set toiletries as we are freshening up in the morning, or getting ready for bed at night, and now (so happy!), there’s room for flowers, too.
A fun side note, because every story has its own story -
The inspiration for this small idea of a simple glass shelf came from none other than one of our favorite illustrators, who has done so well with his accurate period sketches, Robert McClosky, in his book, One Morning in Maine:
Have the loveliest of weekends, friends!
