Green. Soaking rain, gray clouds, rivers running down the glass, and green as far as the eye can see! My visual appetite is so insatiable, I can’t seem to get enough. Could there have been a better color chosen with which to drape the earth at the break of spring?
As the rain blew wildly down outside, drenching the afternoon, I stood inside and planted green. Just a few succulents to have around the house - Burrow’s Tail and Hen ‘n Chicks, each a favorite. I don’t have fancy pottery to put them in. No matter, I like simple clay and sturdy baskets better, anyway.
The basket I lined with a piece of a heavy plastic bag recycled from the trash, then, filled with potting soil, it was ready for planting. The mama hen will root her baby chicks around her, and soon the basket will be covered in them. I cannot wait.
And the Burrow’s Tail, with its ropes of pudgy leaves and subtle comic relief? How could I not have such character in a chipped clay pot sitting on my kitchen shelf?
This green, it’s got me.
