It’s a working kitchen. Right in the middle of the bread dough rising and the apples cooking down for sauce and apple butter, right in the middle of the basketball game that was happening at the other end of the same room, my guy came home from days of being outdoors; days of camping and hiking, of hunting wild game for the larder. And he was a hungry man. Perfect time to join me in the middle of all this and cook up a batch of scrambled eggs for himself.
For just a moment in the midmorning of a busy day, we worked alongside, he and I, talking, catching up, sharing hopes and a few blurry dreams, sharing stovetop, sink, and elbow room. Soon, he was out the door and on to his day, and I was filling the stockpot with another batch of quartered apples.
You know, I rather like having a house that keeps us at each other’s side.
Wishing you a lovely fall weekend, friends! It’s a beautiful one here.
