On these days that are full of going and coming in the car, of short trips and longer ones (coming right up), of basketball games and practices; during those times that hold wide opportunity to knit a stitch or two, I’ve noticed how often I’ve been reaching for my favorite tote bag. It’s the one I made three years ago, the one that really is big enough to hold the ever-growing knitted alpaca throw (the pattern is free over on Ravelry! The only modifications I made were size 11 needles and a much longer length), plus a book, a water bottle, and whatever else that might need toting.
I remembered that I’d written a blog post about this tote soon after I’d finished it, and thought we’d head back a few years’ worth of pages on the blog today, and enjoy that one again. . .
So, that small sewing project that I mentioned? This one I love. It's the Everything Tote from Heather Ross' Weekend Sewing. Aptly named, it's large enough to fit everything in it, and there may even be room to spare!
And? It was a quick sew, indeed. I cut it out one evening and had it finished the next afternoon, with the all the normal homeschool and household intermissions in between.
The outer fabric is a thrifted cotton tablecloth (it was just barely big enough, whew!), and the lining is a natural slubbed cotton in off-white.
Oh, this tote. This tote! Now, when I'm packing for the next trip, I'll be thrilled to know that I have that one more big bag that I'm always wishing for, to throw all those extras into!
