I’ve so enjoyed today. Not because it was some sort of extraordinary, but because it wasn’t. It was a normal day. When you haven’t had the privilege of that in a while, it comes as a happy little gift. No pressure, no deadlines, no preparing for anything monumental, just, you know, laundry, and sweeping, and baking; washing dishes. Nice normal things. Lovely.
Now. Can I tell you about the lamps over the sofa? We’re crazy about them. Well, except maybe the boys. I’m not sure boys get crazy over lamps. Lamps don’t involve football. But, the two adults in this house are so very happy to finally have reading lights in the living room!
I had originally intended for a sofa table to go behind the couch and completely fill the recessed area, providing a surface along the window sill for display and also a place for two fabulous vintage Lucite table lamps to sit. But, unfortunately, the finished dimension of the recess ended up being quite a bit less that what I’d drawn in the plan, so the sofa table idea wouldn’t work. Back to the drawing board.
Goodness, the market was veery narrow for what I was looking for, since the requirements were so specific. The lamps needed to be wall-mounted with a narrow base, they needed to plug in, be an extended arm style, with a switch on the light (not the cord), and of course, they had to be tastefully designed. And, I wanted to spend less rather than more. Tall order.
Enter an unrelated search on ebay for a vintage porch light, and I stumbled across the work of dw_vintage. This seller makes exactly what I was looking for! And I could custom order the arm length I needed, the cord and socket color I wanted, and the shade color I liked (I went with the gold cord, aged brass socket, and flat metal shade in black). So very perfect. They were made and shipped quickly, too. Fitted with Edison style bulbs, they give a warm, golden glow. We couldn’t be happier!
In fact, I just realized that it’s turning dusk outside. Think I’ll go turn them on. Wink.
Wishing you the loveliest of weekends, friends, be it normal or extraordinary.
