I carried a saw in my hand. They wondered why. Why, all the way around the trail through the woods by the river, they wondered.

I just thought branches would be good.

I never could say, really. Even when I dragged an armload of just-right branches all the way home. It’s hard to say what you may be up to with just-right branches when Christmas and gift-making and gift-giving is in full swing.
Those boys, they’re so perplexed.
What if they knew that this is on its way, and that it has something to do with those branches that I dragged home?
They’d be even more perplexed.
