It's here! The first anniversary of the weekly Wildhairs comic strip is here! That boy right up there, next to his cast of characters (with his own hair wild just for this occasion), has done it!!
One year of published comics!
When his interest in cartooning began to sprout, more than two years ago now, none of us had any idea where it might lead. From the beginning, he's filled sketchbook pages, studied his favorite cartoonists, read every cartooning book he could get his hands on, and devoured all the cartoons he could find, with Calvin & Hobbes, Peanuts, Garfield, and political cartoons being the top picks. Just over a year ago, I tossed him the idea of publishing his cartoons on my blog on Sundays, calling it Funnies on Sunday!, and he jumped at the chance. Honestly? I thought it would be a one, maybe two month gig. But, look! It's been twelve, and he doesn't seem to be slowing down!
To the original assortment of paper, non-photo blue pencils, inking pens, erasers, t-squares, triangles, the drafting table, and stereo that are usually found in his creative space, he's now adding the tapping of computer keys and the clicking of a mouse to help bring what's in his head into reality. A dozen months can take you a long way, baby!
And the humor part? I love the humor part, because we get to see behind the scenes, how most of his inspiration comes straight from his daily life, his world, his perspective.
Now, not to keep you waiting any longer, here is JeR's one year anniversary comic, where the Wildhairs are celebrating, too, and thinking about just where they might go to have that celebration!
Hey all you Wildhairs fans! Leave a comment on this post and celebrate with us - we'd love to know who you are, where you're from (state, country), and what you think!!
