We've had this fun little fantasy for a while, now. It goes something like this: Trim the lifestyle down to the simplest necessities, buy a sailboat, and live aboard. Sounds fun, huh?
I guess you could call what we're doing right now, our trial run of sorts. Five people living in a smallish camper that's maybe 25 feet long. Maybe. And it's 150 degrees of crispy, dry heat outside. Okay. Try 107. Although there's no saltwater within a good day's drive from here, we can't help but see some of the similarities between a camper and a boat.
So, how's the 'sailing' going, you say?
Well, I'll tell you:
Good thing that, mostly, we like to be cozy.
Good thing it's just a trial run!
Good thing there's a pool around the corner.
Good thing there's a river. And a pond.
Good thing there are lots of rocks to throw into that river and that pond.
Good thing that we found a used book store yesterday.
Good thing that they offer half-price credit toward another book when you return the one you've read.
Good thing I have boys who read books!
Good thing that none of us have more than a few changes of clothes.
Good thing that I only brought four pair of shoes!
Good thing there's air conditioning!! Double good thing.
Good thing there's the best little grill ever made sitting right outside.
Good thing there's a farmer's market with fresh produce, free- range eggs, goat cheese, Indian flat-bread, local wine, homemade bread, and funnel cakes.
Good thing that Daddy is close by everyday and we can have picnics in the shade with him, then play game after game of ladder ball!!
Good thing there's shade.
Good thing, when you're feeling cramped and crabby, there's such a thing as "I'm sorry, let me say that in a nicer way."
Good thing there's hope that we'll actually remember to say it when we need to!
Good thing that we have dreams.
Good thing that some dreams come true, and if ours does in some form,
Good thing we'll be ready!
