Oh, those owls! This is a thrifted print entitled "Burrowing Owls" by Richard Hinger. It caught me when I saw it, but upon closer inspection, I also saw the flaw - a scratch to the right of the little owl's head. (See the white spot, there?) Bummer. I continued to look around at other things in the shop, but kept thinking about the little owls. Could I fix the flaw somehow? Knowing that it was probably mass-produced decorator's art, I was pretty sure I wouldn't hurt any value it may have had if I tried. So, I asked the sweet little ladies volunteering at the shop that day if they'd be willing to take some off the price. They were willing and the owls came home with me!
Yesterday, I found some time to take it all apart, clean it up, mix some paints and get to work on the flaw. Even though it's not put back together yet, I do have some good news to report - the flaw is fixed!! Miracle of miracles, this girl who really doesn't know what she's doing with paint and brush, somehow made it disappear!
Now onto the frame. Hmm.
Help me out, here. Should I just clean it up and leave it as is, or does some sanding and a coat of paste wax sound like the way to go?
Have a lovely weekend, friends!
