Hello, my friends! Happy New Year to you!
I hope that at the end of the holiday season, you are finding yourself full of good memories, hope, and happiness!
As you know, last week, here, was planned to be full of rest and other fun things that one gets to do when she comes to that pause between. Turns out, I did rest... well... as much as a mama can rest when a nasty cold has come to plow her over for five days! The problem when the mama gets plowed over, I found, is that after five days, the house and everything in it looks like it's been plowed over, too.
My solution in this time of trial?
Knitting!
You cannot plow through knitting - it's gentle and rhythmical, one stitch at a time, from needle to needle. And, if you have an endless cup of peppermint tea sitting beside you and a good movie to watch, it's even better. But, it's best when you have all that plus a couple curious boys sitting on either side of you, watching very closely how you're doing this thing that they've never seen before, and telling you how they really want to try doing it, too.
Pretty soon, you (almost) forget about the fact that laundry needs to be done, that you have two Christmas trees that need to come down, that the kitchen floor is in desperate need of attention, and that you have those sewing projects that you wanted to get finished this week. (But, my, are you glad that you have dinners, ready and frozen in the freezer!)
Although it had been many, many years (why, WHY so long?) since I'd last held knitting needles in my hands, the feel for it came right back. The swatch of practice stitches grew longer than planned, because trying this stitch and that stitch proved to be too engaging to keep it short, and who cared when I dropped a stitch and created a lovely hole right in the middle? I certainly didn't.
I'm so happy to have gotten reacquainted with knitting again! I think we'll grow to be fast friends in 2010.
I'll be back tomorrow to share our Christmas-giving highlights with you. Until then, have a the loveliest of January Mondays!
