Our two older guys were beckoned by an official decree to attend a week-long Medieval Day Camp. (When something begins with the words, "Hear Ye, Hear Ye," you know it's official.) Our younger guy didn't make the age cut, but he was okay with that. He was just fine staying home with his daddy, following him where ever he went, chattering all the way.
But, the two big guys were itchin' every morning to get out the door and head to camp. Partly, because it was just fun sayin' that they were heading to camp, and partly because I left early each morning in the minivan to go pick up some other kids, then I'd swing back by our house to get the boys, so for my guys, it was kinda like waiting at the bottom of the driveway for the bus each morning. Cool.
But, most of all, the camp was just a whole lot of fun. Each day, they learned something different about those interestinig people in those interesting times.
But the best day of all had to be the very last, when everyone came dressed in their finest Medieval attire, ready to participate in a Tournament between England and France, which would then be followed by a fine feast for all.
The first competition of the Tournament was archery. Many a knight lined up to set his score...
...against this guy...
He looked very threatening, scary, and mean. Just what every brave knight is looking for.
YEOWZER!! Right in the ding-dongs!
On to the other competitions...there were Ninepins,
Horseshoes
Eggs for tossin' and racin'
Juggling
Javelin toss
Foot race
The scores are close
Then, the apple bob
And the winner of the Tournament is...
well, I don't know. Because I forgot. Maybe it was England, or was it France? I just don't know! So sorry. So very sorry. Update: the winner was France! Good thing my knight just walked by and told me so!
In the mean time, a great feast was being prepared.
There was great feasting, celebrating, and toasting with fancy, bejeweled goblets. A smashing way to end a fabulous week.
