Last month, that time during which you saw not hide nor hair of me, we were busy over here. We're always busy over here, but this busy was about the planning and making of a celebration for one of those boys who's always hangin' around. Which we love, 'cause he is our boy, an' all.
He was turning 9.
In the months leading up, we had talked about what kind of party we would have when his day rolled around. Even though we just have small, family parties, each boy gets to help choose the theme or idea around which to plan his celebration.
We talked about a knight party, he and I. We talked about a Bigfoot party. (I wasn't sure exactly how I would pull that one together!) But, somehow, this year was different for our big boy. None of these ideas seemed to fit.
One day he asked, "Can I just have a no-theme party?"
Hmm. Leaving childish things behind, maybe? I don't know, but he was right, a no-theme birthday party was just right.
But, it still had to be special.
So, with a selection of brightly colored card stock, and some coordinating gift wrap, we celebrated our boy...and we celebrated 9.
Our boy and 9, they are gonna get along just fine.
The birthday boy always gets to choose the dinner menu, as well as the dessert.
Our meat-lover chose BBQ ribs and mashed potatoes.
And no birthday cake, but a birthday Lemon Meringue Pie. And he helped make it.
Mmmm...tasty!
Time for candles. Time for wishes.
Time for tearing into gifts.
And at the end of it all, this is the face that makes your day.
Gosh, we love this kid.
